Ministry Description: New Hope Community Church Cycling Ministry

Ministry Purpose: "Through Our Spokes, God Speaks"

Various activities enable us to share our joy of biking and the spirit of Christ with others.

San Diego had been named the best large city in the U.S. for cycling by BICYCLING magazine! (March, 2006) Indeed, San Diego County is the perfect place to enjoy cycling as a year round activity. It only rains 10 inches per year and 80% of that is between December and March. Average daytime temperature is 70 degrees throughout the year. Rides along the coast are among the most beautiful in the world! San Diego's terrain allows for all kinds of riding from very flat and easy to hilly and challenging. There are over two dozen national and international bicycle industry companies located in San Diego County! There are 1039 miles of designated bike routes, paths, and trails in San Diego County! Einstein came up with the “theory of relativity” while riding a bike! What will you come up with?

This ministry experience involves rides of different lengths and for different ages, ability levels, children, youth, ladies only, etc.

Recycle Your Bicycle Program - Locate, pick up, clean up, and give away bikes to families in need throughout the year

Distribution of our tract “Keep Rolling With God”

Growing . . .

Fellowship through bike rides and workshops on 1st & 3rd Saturdays. Meet in the parking lot next to the Bonita Library at 8:00 AM for sharing about our bikes
followed by a ride.

We will draw upon our own expertise (men, women, children) . . .

• Different types of bicycles (hybrid, mountain, road, cruiser, folding, recumbent, electric, tandem)
• Bike routes
• Repairs
• Terror and joy of commuting
• Bicycle safety
• Cool gadgets
• Bike stuff we've found that works: clothing, lube, tools, slime tubes, tires, lighting systems, water bottles, helmets, mirrors, computers, GPS, backpacks, etc.

Serving . . .

“Bike-A-Thons - "Bike for Bibles", Bike for Blankets fundraisers - Raise funds through pledges to get bibles, bikes, and blankets into the hands of people attending Centro Shalom in Tijuana.

Bike give-aways to families who have no other means of transportation.

Cool things we’ve done since our inaugural ride on January 7, 2006!

• Sponsored our own bike-a-thon and raised money for over 200 blankets given to families in Tijuana!
• Obtained 75 bikes to refurbish and donate to families who have no other means of transportation!
• Informed Public Works Department of mis-aligned grate. Cyclists were in “grate danger” of getting a wheel caught!
• Participated as a team in several organized rides:
  Tour de Palm Springs
  Rosarito/Ensenada Bike Ride
  Cycle Eastlake
• Created our own ministry tract to hand out!
• Created a booth display and materials to hand out at Cycle Eastlake!
• Adopted our “Outspokin’ For Jesus!” logo!
• Received sponsorship from Chick-fil-A for own custom designed jerseys!
• Conducted several mini-workshops and clinics on biking equipment, clothing, and accessories!
• Over 35 people have shared fun times on the road
  together!
• Do great things for others while doing what you love
